Common Mental Health Symptoms

“I’ve had my own struggles with mental health, and feel it is a topic that is left untouched in many minority communities and the world of sports.”

~ Natasha Hastings, Olympic Track and Field

You may not realise it, but by participating in sports, we are also adding to the many demands in our lives e.g. schooling, commuting, training, working, competing and family.

This can be both exhausting and demanding. As athletes we are focused on training and performance, and do not have the time to consider anyone else’s needs.

The daily relentless training routines if not managed well can lead to pressure which can manifest in many different ways, physically as well as mentally.

Common mental health issues include depression, sleeping disorders, eating disorders, self harm, body dysmorphia, suicidal thoughts & suicide.
