Depression is a mental disorder characterised by low mood and feeling down, which makes it difficult to carry out everyday activities.

As an athlete, depression can affect us at any level of competition, from amateur to elite professional. We may experience depression because of the pressure that comes with being an athlete; this can include injury, involuntary career termination, performance expectations, as well as not always having a support system.
