Abdul’s Story

Abdul was in his second year playing football as his full time career, and he experienced the feeling of not being valued by his club. Fortunately, his teammates showed him sympathy and helped him know he has worth in the squad.

Feeling constantly out of control or beyond our capability can drive us into recurrent negative thoughts, unhealthy behaviours, poor sleep patterns, feelings of hopelessness and apathy.  Abdul stopped taking care of himself and was afraid to sleep or be with anyone.  Despite being the top scorer in the club he felt no one cared about him. It was his teammates that rallied to reassure him of his worth. Being there for each other can be as simple as refusing to let them be consumed by their negative thoughts.

“For a few months, everything lost meaning. It seemed like no-one cared about me, just the footballer I represented. It was like everyone was asking about Buffon and nobody about Gigi.”

~ Gianluigi Buffon, Professional Football Player
